A Rough Ride Helps Make Healthy Hearts

On Saturday 24^th September Andy Hills, our Office Manager, will take part in the London to Brighton Off-Road Bike Ride 2016. This challenging ride packs all the best bits of off-road riding together into an amazingly varied route. A gruelling muddy adventure, it covers 75 miles of exhilarating terrain including steep forest inclines, tricky technical descents, rocky paths and adrenaline pumping single tracks.

Andy has always been a keen cyclist and firm supporter of Futures Supplies Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. In 2011 he was successful in cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats raising a hefty £5,000.

This year Andy is raising funds for The British Heart Foundation. Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer and the BHF funds crucial life saving research into improving the treatment, diagnosis and the prevention of heart and circulatory disease.

Andy will be taking up the challenging cycle ride with his brother Paul. Between them they have already managed to lose some 6 stone through training for the off road ride this year! Andy said “Paul and I had both put on a bit too much weight over the past few years, Paul was also suffering from hypertension and my Dad recently had to undergo major heart surgery. This inspired us to try and do something that will not just help us lose weight and become healthier but also to support the British Heart Foundation who do such amazing work”.

Futures Supplies Rated As STRONG!

A study by Plimsoll Publishing Ltd has rated Futures Supplies and Support Services Ltd as “STRONG” in their latest analysis of the UK’s largest companies. This is the highest accolade awarded by Plimsoll and reflects our outstanding performance over the past 12 months.

This has been achieved in a difficult marketplace where a number of competitors are in financial danger and a record number are making a loss.

The Plimsoll analysis individually asses each company and provides a rating of Strong, Good, Mediocre, Caution or Danger, we are delighted to be one of only a minority of companies in our sector rated at the top of our field as “Strong”.

Classification, Labelling and Packaging Regulation (CLP)

From 1st June 2015 all products will be labelled under the new Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).

It is implemented in the EU via the Classification, Labelling and Packaging Regulation (CLP), where previously chemical products were regulated in the UK under CHIP.

New red diamond shaped Hazard Pictograms will replace the orange square Hazard Symbols, though some of the internal images are similar.

The presence of a new Hazard Pictogram on a label does not necessarily signify a change in the formulation, and could just be a consequence of compliance with the new classification system

As before, a system of calculations and thresholds is used to classify products. However, some of the threshold levels under CLP are lower than under CHIP.

For example under the CHIP system a product would need to contain more than 20% of an ingredient classified as R36 (Irritating to eyes) to trigger an ‘Irritant’ hazard symbol but under CLP this is reduced to 10% to trigger a hazard pictogram. This may result in many products being classified where previously they were not.

It’s a Celebration!!

We are all excited and delighted…… the champagne corks are popping as we celebrate 20 years in business.

Twenty years marks a significant milestone for Futures Supplies. We began as a small business working from home with a garage full of toilet rolls and cleaning supplies delivering door to door. We have now grown to become an award winning company with a turnover in excess of £3.5 million. Working with local customers and on a national basis we are honoured to be able to celebrate this occasion with many of the people who have shared our journey and contributed to make the company the success it is today.

Futures Supplies was set up in 1995 by current CEO Mandie Kemp and in the last two decades the company has established itself as a pioneer, innovator and leader within the cleaning industry. The company is now well established and respected and is recognised as a major player in distributing washroom, cleaning, janitorial and associated products. It is proactive in its approach to the environment and is committed to Corporate Social Responsibility, always seeking ways to put something back into the local community, whilst delivering exceptional value and customer service excellence.

We are thankful to our many customers and partners for their loyalty over the past twenty years. Ebola Virus Disease

In view of the recent press and concerns raised by our valued customers we hope that you will find the following information useful.

We have had many enquiries regarding the effectiveness of disinfectants against the Ebola virus. The following information has been compiled by the chemists at Evans Vanodine, which we hope will be helpful.

No products have been tested against this virus and it is very unlikely that such testing will be carried out. There are only 2 reference laboratories in the UK that handle this Hazard Group 4 virus and these laboratories are engaged in diagnostic and vaccine research work. Due to this, these laboratories will not be testing any disinfectants for their effectiveness against the virus at this time. Therefore Evans, along with other companies, will not be able to have any products tested against the Ebola virus.

The UK.gov website gives the Government’s response to the current Ebola outbreak www.gov.uk/government/news/ebola-government-response and makes clear that the risk to the UK is low and that measures are in place to deal with suspected cases.

The Ebola virus is an enveloped virus and enveloped viruses are more susceptible to disinfectants than non-enveloped ones. However results against one enveloped virus cannot be used to prove activity against others, particularly a virus such as Ebola. Sodium hypochlorite (bleach) would be the best option (and is listed in the World Health Organisation guidance) and a broad range virucidal disinfectant for surface disinfection when there are no test results available.

Good hand hygiene is vitally important, especially for those caring for sick individuals, along with the use of gloves, protective clothing and masks. Advice regarding hand hygiene, and more information about the current outbreak, is given on the WHO website at www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs103/en/ as well as on their FAQ section www.who.int/csr/disease/ebola/faq-ebola/en/

Evans Vanodine’s products include sodium hypochlorite (bleach) disinfectants, hand soaps and an alcohol hand rub, known as Handsan. Evans Handsan contains 70% Isopropanol and is proven to kill 99.999% of bacteria in 30 seconds.

Daniel Walks The Walk for The British Heart Foundation

Daniel Rendall our Business Development Manager is bravely taking part in the ultimate walking challenge, The London to Brighton Trek 2014 on the 21st June 2014, to help raise crucial sponsorship funds in support of the British Heart Foundation.

Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer and The British Heart Foundation are leading the fight with donations powering life-saving research to help keep more families together.

Daniel said “I have always enjoyed pushing myself and chose the British Heart Foundation as I have lost loved ones through heart problems and felt the need to give something back.”

The London to Brighton Trek is no walk in the park at a whopping non-stop 105 km it is a challenging and gruelling experience, only just over half of the walkers managed to complete the distance last year!

Joining Futures Supplies just over a year ago Daniel has become a popular and well liked member of the team and has been busy in recent months with his pre-event training which he hopes will be the key to his success on this amazing trek.

Daniel, who has become known by the nickname ‘Superman’ due to his striking resemblance to Clarke Kent and apparent superhuman abilities, will begin the walk at Sandown Race Course with his friend Chris. Starting off at 8am and continue to walk through the night for an estimated 20 hours – he will certainly need those superhuman abilities!

Daniel will have his trusty head torch, the support of the gang at Futures Supplies, the other walkers and the inspiration of money he will raise to help this worthy cause. He will endure 1,026 metres of walking, climbing and a terrain which includes pavement, footpaths, bridleway and unsealed paths with the last five miles walking alongside the promenade hopefully enjoying views of Hove and Brighton in the early hours of the morning.

New Assistant Nathalie Joins The Dynamic Futures Supplies Team

The latest member to join the Sales Support team, Nathalie Balfe is already demonstrating her key skills in customer support and back office administration under the watchful eye of Leiann Kemp, Customer Service Manager & PA to the CEO.

As part of the Sales Administration team and working alongside Leiann, Nathalie has quickly become a valued member of our young, dynamic and motivated team.

In her role, Nathalie is responsible for supporting and liaising with customers and prospective customers, maintaining the company’s ACT database and supporting the sales team in their day to day roles.

Nathalie says, “I have been made to feel very welcome at Futures Supplies and I enjoy interacting with the customers very much. Hopefully, I can continue to grow within the team and gain more experience in all areas of the business.”
