Croydon Business Excellence Awards 2016

The cream of Croydon’s business community came together on 6^th October at the Grand Sapphire to celebrate the winners of the Croydon Business Excellence Awards 2016.

The event raised around £10,000 for this year’s chosen charities of the Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Wayne Trakas-Lawlor.

It was hosted by broadcaster and journalist Julia Hartley-Brewer and featured a charity auction presented by Crystal Palace legend John Salako.

Our congratulations goes out to all this year’s winners especially our client Chequers Contract Services on their Award.

We Love Croydon!

Significant regeneration has seen Croydon go from strength to strength with recent reports confirming that the town has the UK’s fastest-growing economy.

With Boxpark due to open on the 29^th October and Westfield Croydon on the horizon it is without doubt an exciting time for Croydon.

Croydon has fast become known as the Silicon Valley of South London with a recorded annual business growth rate of 9.3 per cent, according to a report by accountancy firm UHY Hacker Young.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan was keen to visit recently to hear more about Croydon Council’s multi-million-pound plans including a new cultural quarter.

Mr Khan said: “I think Croydon is a hub for technology, for culture, for development, and it is one of the hidden gems of our great city, and I’m looking forward to Croydon flourishing and thriving.”

A Rough Ride Helps Make Healthy Hearts

On Saturday 24^th September Andy Hills, our Office Manager, will take part in the London to Brighton Off-Road Bike Ride 2016. This challenging ride packs all the best bits of off-road riding together into an amazingly varied route. A gruelling muddy adventure, it covers 75 miles of exhilarating terrain including steep forest inclines, tricky technical descents, rocky paths and adrenaline pumping single tracks.

Andy has always been a keen cyclist and firm supporter of Futures Supplies Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. In 2011 he was successful in cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats raising a hefty £5,000.

This year Andy is raising funds for The British Heart Foundation. Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer and the BHF funds crucial life saving research into improving the treatment, diagnosis and the prevention of heart and circulatory disease.

Andy will be taking up the challenging cycle ride with his brother Paul. Between them they have already managed to lose some 6 stone through training for the off road ride this year! Andy said “Paul and I had both put on a bit too much weight over the past few years, Paul was also suffering from hypertension and my Dad recently had to undergo major heart surgery. This inspired us to try and do something that will not just help us lose weight and become healthier but also to support the British Heart Foundation who do such amazing work”.

Single Use Towels Are The Most Hygienic!

Single-use towels offer the most hygienic way to reduce the risk of the transmission of viruses when drying hands in the washroom.

New independent research has found that single-use paper towels are the most effective way to dry one’s hands in the washroom and reduce the risk of the transmission of viruses.

The study indicates that they help minimise the spread of viruses including ones associated with various diseases, including those causing gastro-intestinal infections such as Norovirus and Rotavirus.

Single-use towels disperse fewer microorganisms into the environment than jet air dryers and warm air dryers and also help reduce the risk that viruses are blown into the faces of small children accompanying adults in the washroom.

The findings have serious implications for washroom facility managers in settings such as hospitals and restaurants where hygiene is paramount.

We were delighted to attend the ISSA/INTERCLEAN show in Amsterdam this year. It was a great opportunity to review new innovations and meet with both customer and supply partners and develop new relationships.

Easy Steps to Control Health Risks From Chemicals – Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)

Did you know the Health & Safety Executives website provides practical advice and Guidance on the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations? You can find information on what the law requires, advice on completing COSHH assessments and a handy e-tool to help you carry out assessments.

COSHH Essentials provides advice on controlling the use of chemicals for a range of common tasks and sets out basic advice on what to do to control exposure to hazardous substances in the workplace. It takes the form of straightforward advice in ‘factsheets’ called ‘control guidance sheets’. There are two types of sheets, industry-specific ‘direct advice sheets’ and ‘generic control guidance sheets’.

The handy e-tool provided prompts you through a number of steps. It asks you for information about your tasks and chemicals and to enter some basic information about the substance you are using before directing you to the most appropriate control guidance sheet.
