Carbon Neutral Supplies Delivered to Your Door

Carbon Neutral Certified LogoWe are delighted to have been certified Carbon Neutral for the eighth consecutive year.

Continuing our support of the Gobi Gansu Wind Power Project, this Gold Standard Project involves the generation of zero-emission renewable energy through the installation of wind turbines in northwest China. The project is making a significant contribution to the sustainable development of one of the poorest provinces in China, providing considerable environmental, social and sustainable benefits.

We are proud to be taking a net zero position on emissions by measuring the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with our business, reducing them at source and then offsetting any unavoidable emissions by purchasing carbon credits.

Ebola Virus Disease

EbolaIn view of the recent press and concerns raised by our valued customers we hope that you will find the following information useful.

We have had many enquiries regarding the effectiveness of disinfectants against the Ebola virus. The following information has been compiled by the chemists at Evans Vanodine, which we hope will be helpful.

No products have been tested against this virus and it is very unlikely that such testing will be carried out. There are only 2 reference laboratories in the UK that handle this Hazard Group 4 virus and these laboratories are engaged in diagnostic and vaccine research work. Due to this, these laboratories will not be testing any disinfectants for their effectiveness against the virus at this time. Therefore Evans, along with other companies, will not be able to have any products tested against the Ebola virus.

The UK.gov website gives the Government’s response to the current Ebola outbreak www.gov.uk/government/news/ebola-government-response and makes clear that the risk to the UK is low and that measures are in place to deal with suspected cases.

The Ebola virus is an enveloped virus and enveloped viruses are more susceptible to disinfectants than non-enveloped ones. However results against one enveloped virus cannot be used to prove activity against others, particularly a virus such as Ebola. Sodium hypochlorite (bleach) would be the best option (and is listed in the World Health Organisation guidance) and a broad range virucidal disinfectant for surface disinfection when there are no test results available.

Good hand hygiene is vitally important, especially for those caring for sick individuals, along with the use of gloves, protective clothing and masks. Advice regarding hand hygiene, and more information about the current outbreak, is given on the WHO website at www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs103/en/ as well as on their FAQ section www.who.int/csr/disease/ebola/faq-ebola/en/

evans-footer-logoEvans Vanodine’s products include sodium hypochlorite (bleach) disinfectants, hand soaps and an alcohol hand rub, known as Handsan. Evans Handsan contains 70% Isopropanol and is proven to kill 99.999% of bacteria in 30 seconds.

All Change as New Legislation Hits Vacuum Cleaners

On the 1s September new EU eco-design and labelling regulations comes into force. The EU energy label is being introduced by the European Union and means manufacturers will not be able to manufacture or import vacuum cleaners with a motor that exceeds 1,600 watts.

The new EU energy label also means that by 2017, manufacturers will not be able to make or import vacuum cleaners with a motor that exceedhenrys 900 watts. For the first time labels will give vacuum cleaners A to G ratings for energy use, cleaning performance on carpets and hard floors, and dust emissions. The label also requires a minimum level of performance for the vacuum to be sold in the EU.

Just to clarify for all our customers, the only clause in the legislation regarding the removal of these models from the market is that manufacturers can no longer bring these vacuums into the UK. If there are models already sat in manufacturers’ warehouses then they can continue to sell them selling them.
